WOM Standeasy-Active is an all-purpose anti-fatigue mat with some extra ingredients. Considered essential equipment for any safety conscious location where employees spend long periods of time standing on hard floors, Standeasy-Active helps to provide a more productive working environment protecting staff and floors alike.
Benefits:
1. Safety
The 100% grease resistant textured surface has a non slip core and beveled edges which reduces the risk of slips, trips and falls. Unique suction discs enhance the mat's stability on smooth, hard surfaces while cross ventilating channels reduce moisture build up below the mat. Large valves drain Liquids away from the surface ensuring a skid resistant safe working environment. The built in anti microbial agent inhibits the growth of bacteria in warm, damp areas such as kitchens which can lead to unsafe, slippery surfaces
2. Silver Based Anti-Microbial Agent
Contains the superior silver-based Anti Microbial AlphaSan agent which improves with washing. The first manufactures to produce a product that is NSF (National Science Foundation) and FDA (Food & Drug Administration) compliant, as well as being registered with the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) for direct food contact applications.
beware of other anti-fatigue mat products that contain common Alkyline compounds such as tri-butylin (TBT) and dibutylin. As known hormone disrupters, they are likely to be banned within the EU.
3. Comfort
Anti Fatigue sponge surface helps keep employees comfortable.
4. Odour Control
The all rubber construction is easily cleaned with soap and water together with the anti-microbial benefit, prevents the build up of odours
5. Protects
Standeasy-Active protects the floor from damage and the sponge surface helps to reduce breakage.

Standeasy-Active mats should be stored flat or rolled.
AlphaSan Anti-Microbial agent
What is AlphaSan?
AlphaSan is an anti-microbial agent that releases silver ions, disrupting the growth of microbes such as bacteria. The Milliken Chemical division identified over 40 different silver based anti-microbials throughout the world. They were all evaluated and AlphaSan was identified as the superior silver based technology.
In ancient times, it was discovered that wine, milk and water could be stored fro longer periods of time in silver lined vessels. Today silver is used in a variety of forms of medical treatment. For example, silver nitrate and silver sulphandiazine are used as topical treatments for wounds, especially in burn therapy. Many medical applications, including catheters, wound care device and implanted material are treated with silver to reduce the risk of infection. These many examples serve to highlight the safety and proven effectiveness of it's anti-microbial nature.
Silver is durable, non-migratory, has high resistance to microbes, low toxicity, no volatile components, is thermally stable and has widespread applications. Other companies to use silver based anti-microbial agents are Nike and Friends of Earth.
How does it work?
Microbes, including bacteria and fungi, are found everywhere; on our hands, in the water we drink and in the air that we breathe. A microbes primary goal in life is to find a surface rich in nutrients and attach to it. They set up ship on a surface and begin to grow and divide over a period of weeks and months. A by-product of this microbial growth on a surface is the production of exopolymers or otherwise known as 'slime'. Slime (or biofilm) provides the ideal living environment for the microbes and is found in moist areas such as baths, showers or ice machines for instance. AlphaSan works by reducing or delaying the formation of biofilm.
The active ingredient in AlphaSan is the element silver, in the form of silver ions (Ag+) AlphaSan slowly releases silver ions via an ion exchange mechanism. Activity on the surface of the Standeasy Active mat is continually renewed since the active ingredient is present throughout the material. Abrasion will actually improve performance.
The diagrams below show how AlphaSan works:
1. Formation of gap between cell wall and cytoplasm
2. Condensed form of DNA in centre of electron light region
3. Electron dense granules around the cell wall
4. Damaged cell wall

The alternatives - organic biocides (non-silver based anti-microbials)
Organic biocides were originally developed to address the microbial control concerns in liquid systems, Unfortunately they have been expanded to less suitable applications such as plastics, textiles and rubber resulting in toxicology concerns, limited durability and thermal stability issues.
Alkyltin compounds such as Tributyltin (TBT) and Dibutyltin are environmentally damaging, persistent bioaccumalitive chemicals used as preservatives, anti bacterial agents and catalysts in the production of some plastics. They were also commonly used as a fouling inhibitor in marine paint. They have been found in human blood and liver and have been shown to be hormone disrupters in human cancer cells.
They have possible immunotoxic effects and cause hormone disruption to marine mollusks, making female whelks grow penises devastating their populations. They have been used in anti-bacterial shoe insoles (Woolworths were selling them!) and have been detected in nappies.
Most of our competitors use TBT in their anti-fatigue products. These mats will leach Tributyltin out of the mat during the cleaning process, as well as in use. It is the mechanism by which the product works.
Below are some interesting facts about organic bodies:-
Over the course of the 1980s general awareness of the harmful effects of this substance gradually increased and now the disruptive effects of TBT on the hormones of exposed organisms have been definitively proven. TBT is one of the most poisonous organic compounds known to man, and the true extent of the damage to the marine environment ensuing from its use remains uncertain.
- International Maritime Organisation 1998
...the environmental organisation called on the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), to implement a world-wide ban on the use of toxic tributltin (TBT) in ship paint by 2003 at its meeting in London this week.
- Canadian National Water Research Institute, 2002
Product Recalls
Three department stores in Germany have withdrawn thousands of sports shirts from sale after a TV report alleged that they contained traces of a toxic chemical. The report, on German consumer programme Plusminus, said the shirts contained a chemical called TBT, or Tributyltin, which stops the smell from excessive sweating. BBC News Worldservice (1/7/00)
Under the agreement with the EPA, a major child product company has 90 days to inform the public about the public health claim, including re labeling/repackaging all affected toys. The company must also publish large advertisements in the USA today. Parents, American Baby, Child, and Parenting. Finally the company must pay a $120,000 penalty and perform a public service. Performance
Comparisons of Effectiveness of Anti-Microbial AlphaSan in WOM Standeasy-Active
As can be seen from the results below, WOM Standeasy-Active has two main advantages over competitive products; better effectiveness against microbes and better durability.
WOM Standeasy-Active was tested alongside two competitive products seen here as Product A and Product B (both use organic biocide anti-microbials).
The comparisons were based on:-
1. All products being unwashed
2. After one wash
3. After 20 washes
Test Method
The ability to prevent the growth of bacteria was assessed with the 'plate contact method' against 0.4ml of 10E5 cells/ml in NA/K phosphate buffer with 22 hours exposure. Single samples were tested against Pseudomonas aeruginossa ATCC # 12055 and Straphylococcus aureus ATCC # 6538 in two separate experiments.
The results can be seen below:-

Conclusion
Both products A and B exhibited zero to slight effectiveness against microbial growth with unwashed and washed samples. For both types of mats, effectiveness against microbes appeared to increase slightly after one wash, but dropped to zero after twenty wash cycles. After 20 washes product B actually promotes the growth of bacteria.
In contrast to the WOM Standeasy-Active mat exhibited very high effectiveness with both washed and unwashed samples.
Wom Standeasy-Active performance showed it not only to be better initially but even after 20 industrial torture washes.
Joining Plates
WOM Standeasy-Active mats can easily be joined together to cover large areas by purchasing special flexible joining plates. They simply click into place between two mats creating a strong, safe join.
Minimum of 10 plates per order.
